If my parents get a home equity loan for me to buy a condo in cash, can I simply pay their monthly payments?

Monday, July 12th, 2010

I would like to purchase a non-warrantable condo (due to a minor litigation in the building) that has been foreclosed on. I would have to pay cash as the litigation will not close before the November 30th first time home-buyers credit expires and I would like to get it at a reduced price. I plan on securing a traditional mortgage once the lawsuit has been cleared, but until then I only have approximately 60,000 of the 150,000 necessary for a proper offer (The parents’ loan would supply the rest).

I realize it cannot be considered a gift as it is much larger than 12,000 and I will be paying the monthly payments/paying off the loan once I get a mortgage. I am worried of the tax repercussions for myself/my parents as the loan will only be open for 2-6 months.

to be safe, write up an agreement on this loan, terms, dates, time etc and be sure to state some amount of interest
This probably will not ever happen but it is safe to state this interest because if it is not, it will be imputed by IRS at some time in the future
one never knows how long a law suit may last and your purchase seems to be contingent on this event

How far back does the IRS audit your tax returns?

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Will you ever get an audit for a tax return 5 years or more ago?

The IRS generally does not audit a return filed more than 2 years ago. If they need to examine a return, they need to have the case closed within 3 years of filing.

If there is a case of a non-filed return, the statute of limitations does not start until the taxpayer files a return, so the time is infinite.

There is no statute of limitations on fraud. They can go back to 1931 if there is evidence of such an act.

Even if they could go back 75 years, though, it’s doubtful they would. The IRS wouldn’t be able to find the records, but they have them.

In reality, it’s difficult for the IRS to access its records more than 5 years old right now.

What kind of attorneys serve a more purpose full career in regards to helping people?

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

I am sure law is what I would like to pursue as well as my purspose. I am passionate when it comes to people being taken advantage of and I am just looking for my path. I like consumer law because companies make millions and billions of dollars. They sell faulty equipment, medicine, false hope, etc. It breaks consurmers spirit of hope. Family law for me is biased to the male’s point of view, in child custody, especially when it comes to divorce. Tax law; it is a shame how certain individuals( the tax enforcement agency with three letters) can prey on small business but big companies can have a million times more profit than a smaller company, who knows where thier charity money goes; probably to an offshore bank and the gov want to float their capital and keep them afloat by their non verbal way of threatening the gov……..and they get bailed out., Prosecuter and litigation would be a good venue too. Litigation would allow me to express my point of view and my charizma in the court. Me, a prosecuter………………I would make judge in about 10 years, because I would hand out sentences like water in the summer time. These criminals have no regard to people’s lives………or the people who love people they are harming………….people killing people. What can somebody do so much that would drive someone to kill, rape, rob, ect. them. Life is tthe most valuable thing on this earth and criminals treat other’s lifes like a piece of paper. What are do you think I will be most effective at by what I have told you thus far?????

Please be aware of what you are proposing on getting yourself into. Please do more research first. Reminder: We are in a World-wide Recession. Consider career paths that have available jobs.<<<<<

Warning> Jobs in the field of Law are drying up fast!! This is just not a good field to invest time and/or money into. This is a SHRINKING, crumbling, and dying vocational field. Many reasons. Many people today (mistakenly) think they can do their own legal work, thanks to the Internet. Also, we simply already have way too many Legal Professionals – we have an absolute glut!! ("Legal Professionals" includes, but is not limited to: Attorneys/Lawyers, Paralegals, Legal Assistants, Legal Secretaries, Bailiffs, Court Reporters, etc, etc)

There are no jobs in this vocational field. My family, coworkers, friends, acqaintances, etc. are being laid off left and right in this vocational field.

Employers (usually law firms) in the field of Law today want employees with degrees from traditional colleges/universities. Those "certificates" you see advertised aren’t worth the paper they are printed on – they are generally scams. (I found this out the hard way.)

Cost of law school to be lawyer, approx $150,000+.
Be prepared to take on a lot of debt.<<<<<<<<<
You are going to need to take a job that will let you pay off your educational loans, in addition to your living expenses.

Even if you finish law school, you won’t be able to find a job when you are done. Since this vocational field is shrinking, many new attorneys/lawyers are, themselves, having to work "down" as Paralegals, Legal Assistants, Legal Secretaries, Bailiffs, Court Reporters, etc, etc, to simply try to keep some of their bills paid <<this would be your competition. And the competition is fierce!!

Now… the law schools know this, but they won’t tell you the truth >that the job market/economy is just saturated with way too many Legal Professionals. Instead the schools will feed you a fairytale and will lie to you. The root of the problem is we have too many law schools. We are in a recession, and the schools are fighting for their own survival – they will tell students anything to get to the students’ money. (Which is why they won’t tell you the truth about the job market for the field of Law.) And these schools continue to recruit and churn out even more graduates………….Remember: law schools are BUSINESSES – their top concern is making money for themselves.

If you don’t believe me, then just do a search here on Yahoo Answers to see what other posters are saying about the current status of the field of Law. Call some local law firms – ask to speak to the Manager of Human Resources – ask them if they are hiring; ask them what they think about job availability in the field of Law………………

In the book "So You Want to be a Lawyer?" by Marianne Calabrese and Susanne Calabrese (ISBN 0-88391-136-1): "The United States has more lawyers than any other country in the world. About 38,000 students graduate >each year< from the 200+ law schools in the United States. The competition is very keen for jobs and clients." – Even Associate Justice Antonin Scalia (who served on the U.s. Supreme Court for more than 20 years) says there are too many lawyers. (9/14/2008)

If you want a job when you are done with your studies, consider and look into the fields of >>>Healthcare or Information Technology! I spoke to a career counselor from Jobs and Family Services, and HE told me that these areas are where the jobs are, and future job availability! and scholarships!

Good luck.

Do you STILL thinki that Sarah Palin is qualified?

Dear friends,

So many people have asked me about what I know about Sarah Palin in the last 2 days that I decided to write something up . . .
Basically, Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton have only 2 things in common: their gender and their good looks. :)
You have my permission to forward this to your friends/email contacts with my name and email address attached, but please do not post it on any websites, as there are too many kooks out there . . .

Thanks,
Anne

ABOUT SARAH PALIN

I am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah since 1992. Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her father was my child’s favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more City Council meetings during her administration than about 99% of the residents of the city.

She is enormously popular; in every way she’s like the most popular girl in middle school. Even men who think she is a poor choice and won’t vote for her can’t quit smiling when talking about her because she is a "babe".
It is astonishing and almost scary how well she can keep a secret. She kept her most recent pregnancy a secret from her children and parents for seven months.

She is "pro-life". She recently gave birth to a Down’s syndrome baby. There is no cover-up involved, here; Trig is her baby.
She is energetic and hardworking. She regularly worked out at the gym.

She is savvy. She doesn’t take positions; she just "puts things out there" and if they prove to be popular, then she takes credit.

Her husband works a union job on the North Slope for BP and is a champion snowmobile racer. Todd Palin’s kind of job is highly sought-after because of the schedule and high pay. He arranges his work schedule so he can fish for salmon in Bristol Bay for a month or so in summer, but by no stretch of the imagination is fishing their major source of income. Nor has her life-style ever been anything like that of native Alaskans. Sarah and her whole family are avid hunters.

She’s smart.

Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000 (at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about 670,000 residents.

During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had given rise to a recall campaign.

Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a "fiscal conservative". During her 6 years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over 33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation (1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they benefited residents.

The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration weren’t enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a new library? No. $1m for a park. $15m-plus for construction of a multi-use sports complex which she rushed through to build on a piece of property that the City didn’t even have clear title to, that was still in litigation 7 yrs later–to the delight of the lawyers involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the community but a huge money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed it would be. She also supported bonds for $5.5m for road projects that could have been done in 5-7 yrs without any borrowing.

While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office redecorated more than once.
These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city.
As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplus in Alaska. Rather than invest this surplus in technology that will make us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor she proposed distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state. In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, she recommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects, even while she proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spend today’s surplus, borrow for needs.

She’s not very tolerant of divergent opinions or open to outside ideas or compromise. As Mayor, she fought ideas t
To all the naysayers and those who think this was nothing but BULL. It was on NPR’s All Things Considered today as well. LOL… So much for THAT theory
Agent 99, I am very tolerant of just about everyone..but THIS is not a matter of being tolerant. Our Nation’s if not the entire WORLD’s future is at stake here and I sure as heck DON’T want to see our ufture put into the hands of some NUTCASE from the middle of nowhere. Ms Plain wants to paly with the big kids, well the big kids ply by the rules and she isn’t playing bythe rules. She needs to be called on it and it is NOT a matter of sexism, it’s a matter of patriotism. She is onlyin it for herself and it’s high time that folks like her get called on it.

Raji
Baloon Buster, Anne HAS been interviewed. She was interviewed on NPR’s "All Things Considered" yesterday (Friday, Aug 6th). I don’t think that this is going to go away unless the CURRENT administration decides to pull ot the National Security Act and call the media a "terrorist Organizatin and have them all "detained" until AFTER the election.

Raji

dear Raji,

She scares the siht out of me!!! How can this be? How many boneheaded people are there out in this great country who are actually going to vote for these two?

Between them, they want to drill for off shore oil, continue to slaughter innocents in Iraq, take away a woman’s right to choose, take books out of libraries, promote the teaching of friggin creationism is schools as though it were the equivalent of evolution, drill for oil in the protected Arctic wilderness and go around saying WHO GIVES A FCUK about global warming and the extinction of polar bears!!!!!!!!!!!

Those two scare me. They are dangerous. They cannot be elected, it would not only be the worst thing to happen to our country, but also to the world. Let us lead with diplomacy. Let us go green!!!!! Let us stop this insane war NOW!

I am going to Costa Rica for a vacation late in November. If they win, I might stay there.

She is NOT qualified to run the country. What if McCain should drop dead of a heart attack? The Fundies are alll saying oh sure, she would be great in the White House.

say WHAT??????

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!

WHY DON’T YOU PEOPLE USE YOUR BRAINS AND THINK FOR A CHANGE???????????????

thanks Raji, I needed to get that out of my sytem for a moment.

your ever lovin’ Lady M
